CURRENTLY ON HIATUS.

This is a blog devoted to all of Blizzard's pop culture references across the Warcraft universe (and other games, if you'd like) run by a horde side druid player.
If you could submit as oppose to dropping them in the ask box, that would be amazing. It just makes them a lot easier to manage, since submissions can be put in a queue, whereas asks cannot.
Thankyou!

Hin Denburg

The Zeppelin master for the Grom’gol ship. His name is based on a famous Zeppelin, named the Hindenburg. It crashed in 1937.

That’ll make you think twice before you take the zeppelin, won’t it?

Question

nyxxiee asked: I miss your posts! I keep writing down the pop culture references (because I have no life.) and then I keep forgetting to post them. :( Sad pandas.

Ahhh I miss running this blog too T_T
Tis just that I don’t play anymore, and there are never any submissions to post cause it’s been so inactive (and we already got most of the well-known ones).

If there were I’d be happy to post them, but can’t look for any myself D:

Thankyou though c:

I tried to name all the places in WoW after about a year of not playing

now I realize how weird as hell some of the names were and wonder how I ever remembered them while playing

Whedon references in WoW.

If you’re unsure what this is a reference to, you’re missing out on some serious stuff.
((Also hey! First post in months, as I quit the game and therefore can’t search for references. Still open for submissions, and they’ll be posted pretty fast, but that’s the only action this blog will be getting unless there’s someone who wants to pick it up.))

Well, I’ve done it.

After January I just won’t be playing any more.

Whilst I still adore the lore and story, the game isn’t great any more. It’s far too easy, and not great for casual players like myself. Whilst cataclysm did provide some entertainment for a while, it’s just not particularly appealing to me now.

Since I won’t be able to look for references, is there anyone that still plays that’s interested in either taking over or co-running this blog?

On a Sci-Fi roll tonight.

The goblin/gnome transporters in Booty Bay, Gadgetzan and Gnomer are run by

Scooty in Booty Bay. Scotty?

Sprock in Gnomer. Also wears a blue suit. Do I really have to explain this one?

Aaaand Jhordy Laforge at Gadgetzan -> Geordi LaForge.
Complete with fancy goggles.

I’m unaware if these guys are still here after Cataclysm..

There’s also a robot in Toshley’s station called R3-P0.

R2-D2 + C3P0 = R3-P0

Star Wars

Apparently Toshley’s Station in Blades Edge is a nod to line from A New Hope. Uncle Owen wants Luke to fix up the droids they just bought, and Luke says “But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters”

I thought this was a wee bit obscure but if you talk to Toshley the gnome he gives you a quest called “Picking up some power converters”..

So perhaps not.

Bioshock

I know that Clarissa the Little Sister and her Big Daddy the shredder is already here

But there’s a lot of other references in that quest chain as well:

  • Clarissa Refers to the robot as “Mr. D”, like the little sisters call the big daddies “Mr. B”
  • Part of the quest description is “Would you kindly bring Mr. D’s stuff back so he can teach those baddies in the Alliance a lesson?” In Bioshock, the phrase Would You Kindly? is used as sort of a mind control to make the player do whatever is being asked.
  • While Piloting the Large Daddy you gain access to the 3 spells Incinerate, Freezing Beam and Magnetic Pull. This is a reference to the Plasmids used in Bioshock.
  • The little sisters usually scream violent battle cries at their big daddies. When you’re piloting the robot she says things like “Make ‘em sorry for hurting you, Mr. D!” or “Break their bones!”
  • And “Now Mr. D just needs and Angel to help him navigate.” The little sisters refer to people. Sometimes dead people. As ‘angels’.

Witch Doctor Qu’in is an obvious reference to “Dr. Quin, Medicine Woman”.
Sorry for the combat image. Tanks never wait. :P
